GlobeConvert – Currency & Units Converter – Free

One of the difficult things about traveling to a new country as a flight attendant is converting your money. Part of the issue is mentally calculating the difference in price, and part of it is actually being able to obtain the currency of your current location without killing yourself in fees. I can’t help you with the latter, but the former can be easily solved with a great app called GlobeConvert. It’s an easy to use app that allows you to quickly and easily convert money to the currency of your choice. It works in offline mode, so you don’t need to connect to the internet to use it, and it is easy to learn, which makes it an ideal choice to use for our busy lives. I was able to successfully use it in Japan to convert currency between Yen and USD, and I think it’s one 0f the easiest apps to use! Click on the link below and install it on your iOS device! It does not work on Android unfortunately.

Texting in the sky without T-mobile

Let me start by saying that T-mobile is a wonderful carrier. No, it doesn’t have the best areas, and I do run into a lot of dead zones, but as flight attendants, we are supposed to be palm trees right? Ok, maybe not, but while T-mobile isn’t perfect, it does have some perks that make it an indispensable part of a flight attendants bag of tools. One of them is the ability to text in the sky for free using Go-Go. But, what most people don’t know is that GoGo already has a free texting app that works with all carriers. That app is called Gogo Text and Talk. Links are below.

Travel Adapter

One of the cool things about being a flight attendant is the ability to run away and visit friends. Especially when a distant friend is getting married! That happened to us this weekend! A good friend of ours was getting married this last weekend in Japan and thanks to our travel benefits we were able to attend (or witness as they refer to it there)! Traveling to other countries can be a little difficult sometimes though due to different power ports. Luckily for the most part, we didn’t have any issues in Japan, at least until we got to the airport to go home. We got to the airport extra early since we didn’t want to miss out on our chance to make the flight. When we arrived, the terminal was packed, and all the available power ports were taken to charge our phones. Well, all except this one:

19 Painfully Accurate Flight Attendant Hashtags

Flight attendants are some of the most wonderful people you will ever meet. They are also some of the most finicky people you will meet as well! Below is a list of #hashtags that help illustrate some of the annoying things we have to deal with on a day to day basis. So, without further ado, below are our 19 painfully accurate Flight Attendant Hashtags.

Dave’s final farewell

If you were in DFW airport this weekend, and saw a line of Flight Crews out in the tarmac, it is to pay their respects to Dave Ostang, the mechanic who we tragically lost at DFW last week in an accident at the airport, as he makes his final journey home to Cleveland where he will be buried. Flight Crew is a tight knit family, and the loss of one of our own, or a family member, we treat it as the loss of one of our own family members. Keep the family in your thoughts and prayers. More photos below under read more, photo credit goes to Flight Attendant Amy and Tower Control Kennita.

Power On The Go

I’ll be the first to admit it, I live at the airport. I don’t say this jokingly, I spend more time at the airport than I do at home sometimes. It’s definitely not something I enjoy. But worse than that, is trying to charge my gadgets at the airport. I will arrive at my gate, usually with time to spare, or if the flight is delayed, and sit down to browse the news or Facebook, when I realize my phones battery is about to die. When I look to the nearest power outlet, it’s usually packed with passengers hogging all the power. That’s when I introduce my Monster MP OTG400 BK Outlets To Go Power Strip. They look at me like I have have bestowed upon them some great artifact of power. In reality, it’s a super cheap gadget that will save your butt. Not to mention, if there is a major delay (and with all the nasty weather lately, that’s more than likely to happen at some point), you might end up sleeping at the airport. For $11, this little power strip can save more than just your day, it can help you make friends by letting others use the extra ports. Check it out by clicking here: http://amzn.to/1GHTXYc
